I am a musicologist interested in how music and sound have shaped twentieth- and twenty-first-century cultures. My research explores the aesthetics and practices of film music and sound, extending to popular music, sound studies, the history of musical multimedia, and mediatised performance. Much of my work engages with Italian film music, whose history offers a fascinating lens on the broader dynamics of sound and modernity, and has inspired the creation of FILMUSP, a platform designed to explore and interconnect data on the golden age of Italian soundtracks.

I am a film and media scholar. My primary field of research is the history of Italian popular cinema. I have also worked on the circulation of Italian identity through the media, on Italian political cinema from the 1970s to the present, and on the history of film criticism. Much of my work on Italian popular cinema examines the relationship between the film industry and pop music in the 1960s, with a particular focus on italian musical films (musicarelli).

As a popular music scholar, I am interested in subjects related to the analysis and methodological approaches of Anglophone and Italian post-war music production and its history. My research employs qualitative and quantitative methods to explore topics such as the analysis of audio and video production, the dynamics of creativity inside and outside the recording studio, and the material history of popular music artefacts.

As a musicologist, I am interested in music as a cultural field encompassing the dimensions of text, performance, and media production, and pursue interdisciplinary research. To this end, I created and am the editor of “musica.performance.media”, an interdisciplinary book series published by NeoClassica, with the support of a qualified scientific committee. My publications deal with twentieth-century music, Italian film music, the media circulation of musical performance, and the remediation of art music in popular culture. For the FILMUSP project, I am exploring the active role of performers in the transformation of film music into song for the popular music recording industry.
